About

Nicolas, known to his friends, colleagues and students as Nick, works at the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech), in Atlanta, Georgia. His professional passion is the field of Information Technology. He also enjoys teaching Computer Science and Data Science classes at eCore, which offers online general education courses to students attending any of the University System of Georgia (USG) member institutions and appreciates the opportunity to work with a top notch staff at one of the best universities in the world.

A Georgia Tech graduate from the College of Architecture, Nick started his career practicing his profession at Texas Instruments in Houston, Texas and later at Rust Engineering in Birmingham, Alabama. While working at Rust, he began pursuing an MBA at Samford University. Much to his surprise and shock he discovered that the MBA curriculum required him to take a computer programming class. Not wanting to have anything to do with these “new fangled” machines, he went to see the Dean of the Business School to try and talk his way out of taking the class. The Dean did not relent, and Nick found himself taking the class a semester later. The totally unexpected result was that Nick found himself completely enthralled by computers, and thus, he began a lifelong love affair with the field of Information Technology (IT). After receiving his MBA, Nick managed to cross over from architecture into the computing field by working with Unix based Computer Aided Design (CAD) software and later with more traditional data processing and database systems. After establishing valuable contacts, learning a few more programming languages and navigating his way around the industry, he started his own business, serving a clientele encompassing the gambit between small “mom and pop” shops to Fortune 500 multi-national corporations.

Much to Nick’s surprise, after running his own business for eight years, a prospect presented itself to work at his alma-mater supporting the university’s research enterprise. Seizing the opportunity with both hands and holding on tight, now 30 years later, Nick has since expanded his role beyond IT into Facilities and Security along with his passion: teaching and mentoring undergraduates, and helping them succeed both at Georgia Tech as well as throughout their professional careers. In an effort to facilitate this passion, just a few years ago, Nick enrolled at Mercer University in order to pursue a Ph.D. and later at Middle Georgia State University to pursue a Master of Science in Information Technology. He has now completed both of these programs and graduated with honors.
